Portrait of Beth

For several years now I have been in charge of programming for a group of senior aged artists. When the pandemic began, all programs and meetings stopped. Everything has stayed closed down. I suggested we try Zoom meetings with speakers. Sooo, I spent September and October teaching myself and taking classes on how to host Zoom meetings. Things are going well but I have not taken any time to paint.

I have had a drawing on watercolor paper just waiting to begin. Yesterday was the day! I cannot post my usual progress on this painting because I don’t want the subject to see it until finished. I don’t think she comes to this page, so I will post here.

Today I am showing you her photograph and laid it on top of a Japanese kimono pattern for the background. I used a grid to enlarge it as a drawing and then traced it to 300 lb coldpress watercolor paper. I taped the edges with painters tape and painted the background light tan. The eyeglass frames were masked out. Then I did some shadows in a very light valued black.
