I colored and shaded the figure sitting in the palm of the subject's hand. I then darkened the bottom of the black bracelet so that it would stand out in front of her outfit. I laid down some light yellow in her hair. And, believe it or not, I spent several hours mixing a black for the background. I diluted it and applied one layer. (Remember that a rich, intense color has to be built with many layers.)
