A friend and I went to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art to listen to Dean Mitchell talk about his life, influences and paintings tonight. I have loved his work for a long time, but now I have a deeper understanding of why his work touches me. It was a wonderful experience. The Kemper made a video and I am sure it will be viewable in the near future. In the photo I took of him, he displays an image of a watercolor of his grandmother.
