Except for the fingernail scratches, which I will deal with later, I think I am done with the bottom half of the painting. I added a deeper bit of shading at the edge of the shapes and darkened more sand.

This accidental approach to a very problematic painting may work out o.k. If the top half doesn't work out, I will be able to simple cut it off.
