Thinking

A long time ago, in an art instruction book, I read a phrase that went something like this: “to be a better artist one must see the subject more deeply.” I thought “what the heck is that supposed to mean?” I translated it to mean as my skill level becomes better, my subjects would become more expressive.

Since that time I have learned that the opposite is true. It really meant- to look at the subject in the most minute detail one is capable. The more detail one sees, the better one’s skills become. That is a lifetime challenge!
