You are at the beginning of the painting process for this
work. I have painted Maskoid, (it’s like rubber cement), around the outside
edges. Because the paper is so large, I will be using large brushes and unable
to work into small areas. The Maskoid will not absorb color thus protecting the
figures and protrusions sticking out. Watercolor dries quickly and can streak
badly; so I will turn the work upside down and begin the background color wash
at the hand. I will turn the work as I progress until it is right side up and I
finish near the fingernail.
