Today and tomorrow I am figuring out the dimensions of my next 2-3 paintings. I am not mathematically inclined!

I think I am done with the subject's hair. Therefore I am done.

I have been skittish about darkening the hair shading because the model doesn't have any dark in her hair. While that may be true, the painting needs dark contrasts, so I am rolling up my sleeves and going to work.

I do think I had "covid light" but it still left me listless and unwilling to paint. Today is a new day and I am working on my subject's hair. It is time to move on.

I found a good photo of the subject's hair on my computer and so brought my paint things over to my desk so I could really observe as I started her hair strands. As you can see, the lighting was terrible but at least I got started.

Sorry people. I have been down and out with Covid this month. Fortunately I am coming out of it just in time for Christmas. Maybe even get this painting finished?! Wish me luck!

Three layers of black (made from several other colors so it wouldn't look flat). I may do one more layer to make sure it is smooth.

I was at a Senior Arts Council meeting Monday. My current model was present so it was natural for me to look at her facial features. In the photo I am working from her hair has a slight blond tint. But Monday I realized that there was NO blond in her hair and I had already started putting light yellow on the watercolor paper. (That is what I get for using another person's photo!) I could not resolve how to get the yellow off my paper without using watercolor ground. Even at that it took two coats to cover. I painted one coat a day and had to let each one dry 24 hours.
